What is a Micro-Needle drug delivery?
Micro-needle drug delivery is used to provide vaccination or other drugs directly through the skin. Transdermal delivery of drugs is achieved by fabricating microscopic needles on a patch, ranging in different sizes and shapes, to be injected through the skin. Micro-needles are produced with a variety of materials, such as silicon, titanium, stainless steel, and polymers.
Why is it important?
Micro-needle patches reduce psychosocial discomfort that might arise from using conventional pointed needles. They are also less painful than the original sharp needles. Such convenience allows for faster and easier promotion of vaccination. Although further studies are still needed to improve the effectiveness of micro-needle drug delivery, the micro-needle drug delivery poses a potential in the market place.
